Why the small things matter

I’m sure you’ve heard this from many people – celebrate the small wins! Every step counts! Baby steps are important!

And if you’re like me, I’m sure these statements can inspire your inner critic to say things like “yeah right, that little thing isn’t important! You hardly did anything! You don’t get to celebrate that YET. You need to do more first.”

Well, I’ve got news for our inner critics. It’s not actually the fact that you did the dishes before bed that you are celebrating.

When we do the small things – take the small, incremental steps, there is something deeper to celebrate. And it’s this:

That, if only for a moment, we are living in the beliefs that 1. we can change 2. a different life / way of being is possible for us and 3. that we can actually do something to create it.

The micro steps are always a celebration of us honoring our potential and our own agency.

So next time you choose to set a timer to remember to flip your laundry and your critic says BIG WHOOP remember that this is a BIG DEAL. Because in that choice, you have reclaimed an inch of your power and have stood for a moment as the person you want to be.

And there’s more where that came from.

THIS deserves a party.
