Speak it and make it so

I read a lot of self-development stuff (surprise, surprise).
Some of it passes right through me as nice-to-know. And sometimes I read something that strikes a gong of clarity that reverberates in my whole being.
This happened for me recently and I want to share it.
I’m interested in learning more about how we can re-program our subconscious thoughts so I’ve been reading Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book “Breaking the habit of being yourself: how to lose your mind and create a new one.”
I did not keep track of the page when the gong went off (note to self for next time) but let me explain the main message.
Our thoughts are not real. They do not exist in the physical world. That is, UNTIL, we speak them out and act on them.
For me, this lands like a thud when I think about all the negative, judgmental thoughts I can have (for example, “so and so should not have said that to me”). I can cook up a WHOLE STORY about why I’m right, someone else is wrong, and how could they and…
Until I say something, all of that thinking just exists in my mind.
But when I speak out the story I have concocted, all of a sudden the story exists outside myself. My husband has to respond to it. We debate it. I defend my point. And on and on. Now we have spent 30 minutes (or more) of our REAL LIVES on a story I cooked up based on my own insecurities.
All of a sudden, I gave this thought life. I GAVE IT LIFE. It did not exist outside myself until I spoke it.
Maybe you think I’m loopy but this amazed me.
So. Let’s be mindful about what we bring to life: the garbage stories that arise from our insecurities. Or the stuff that’s really important to us. The stuff we want to focus on.
What’s your experience with this?
