Clarity is overrated

Don’t get me wrong. I like a clear direction just as much as anyone else. It feels comforting, stable, and aligned. And when it’s there, we ride the wave.
But what to do when it’s not there. When the vision is actually fuzzy, and lumpy, and oh so imperfect?
Raise your hand if you’ve been here. Staring out into the lumpy, fuzzy future and feeling totally unmotivated to move closer to THAT. EEK. How can moving towards THAT be a good idea?
I’m here to tell you that not only is it a good idea, but it’s a GREAT idea.
Here are a few reasons why:
- Taking action, even through the fuzz, is the way things become more clear, eventually. Waiting for clarity in order to act is a trap.
- If your future is fuzzy, your mind isn’t set on a given direction which means it’s actually MORE open to directions that may be even better than you could have imagined.
- Taking action through the fuzz builds your muscle of self-confidence. If you can’t be “confident” in your vision out there, you must learn to be confident in yourself (in here) to navigate the unknown terrain. Sounds good, right?
- When we are in the fuzzy, lumpy vision we are invited (forced?) to slow down. Because who wants to zoom ahead into the fog?? And when we slow down, we are more present to the here and now. The richness of today (not just the allure of tomorrow). This expands us.
After we’ve waded through the fuzzy terrain with a blindfold on, eventually we reach a state where we start to see some clearing in the clouds, some ahas and feel an inner momentum to move with more intention and maybe more speed.
Most people come to coaching because they are in the fog and TIRED of doing nothing about it. And it can be somewhat of a shock to people that a coach doesn’t come in and offer a roadmap out [spoiler: coaches don’t have the answers.]
What we WILL do, is walk through the fog together. We will:
- Explore it, experiment, and get curious about what’s emerging and what needs to be released.
- We will amplify the inner resources you already have.
- We will listen for your own wisdom on what next step to take – and you will take it – even though we don’t know what will happen.
- You will become more comfortable doing this – acting without “knowing.”
Coaching can help you get more comfortable in the fog and use it as a place of growth and surprise, instead of a place to get stuck and down.
